A Grandpa’s Joy

This image was taken at a baby’s first birthday party,  getting cleaned up by his grandfather, after the traditional “making a mess with the cake”.

I thought it was such a sweet moment between a child and his obviously adoring grandpa.

I wanted this image to have a softer feel than my usual oil painting inspired portraits, so I used a mix of watercolor brushes and chalks in Corel Painter, and printed on textured watercolor paper.

I’m still experimenting with the look at this point, so all comments and critique are welcome.

Before and After – Angel in the Pond

Please excuse the unimaginative title, I’m open to suggestions. This was painted in Corel Painter from the before photo seen in the upper right corner. It was a snapshot showing progression of a fish pond that my brother is building at his house. The gallery wrap and the heavy canvas texture is a Photoshop action for web display only.  I plan on having this printed on a more linen-like textured canvas with some actual oil or acrylic embellishments added.

Fall is coming!

The “fall like” temperatures the last couple of days have been a nice break from the heat. I’m so looking forward to those few weeks when the colors are at their peak. Here’s an image taken last year of the view from by backyard. Those of you who live nearby will notice that I gave my barn a bit of a makeover. New repairs and paint job coming soon!

Welcome!

While awaiting completion of my new website, I’ve decided to start a blog for  clients, photographers, friends and artists.

I’m new to WordPress, so please bear with me as I learn my way around. I’ll be posting paintings and photography of all types, and maybe a few “works in progress” to show the techniques from start to finish.

Your comments are always welcome.
